The Sea of Art / a memoir of an artist
by Bob Paige
The Sea of Art: A Memoir of an Artist chronicles the adventure of a life in art via the words and images of Bob Paige. It is the very human story of a person with a strong motivation to achieve in art, his struggles to learn its craft and its issues, to know its history, to understand the current art scene, and to find his unique “voice.” Of particular interest is the way Bob’s life and art interact. Through analysis of the paintings, he shows how his art reflects the deepest aspects of his psyche, changing as he moves from the anxiety and alienation of his youth to his maturity.
The book alternates between portraying Bob’s life and describing his thoughts and actions as he paints. Woven into the text are more than 100 reproductions of Bob’s work, influential works from the past, and work by his contemporaries. These examples will give the reader a clear understanding of the forces at play in an artist’s life.
Bob Paige was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1938. He has a diploma from The Cooper Union School of Art, a BFA from the Philadelphia College of Art, and an MFA from Yale University. Bob taught art at Community College of Philadelphia for 34 years, and his paintings were shown in galleries in New York and Philadelphia. Bob passed away in July 2012, not long after completing this book.
Because of the changes occurring in the publishing world, Bob chose to self-publish this memoir. For the buyer, this means considerable savings.
The book will not be in bookstores, but will instead rely on word-of-mouth for sales. If you like the book please recommend it to your friends.
